Potentiation expresses a number in the form of power. When the same number is multiplied several times, we can replace it with a base (number that repeats) raised to an exponent (number of repetitions).

On the other hand, radiciation is the opposite operation of potentiation. By raising a number to the exponent and extracting its root, we return to the initial number.

Potentiation

Potentiation is the mathematical operation used to write very large numbers in a summarized way, where the multiplication of n equal factors that are repeated is made.

: Example: potentiation of natural numbers

3x3x3x3= 34 = 81

For this situation, we have: three (3) is the base, four (4) is the exponent, and the result of the operation is eighty-one (81).

Rooting

Radiciation calculates the number that raised to a given exponent produces the inverse result of potentiation.

Example: radiciation of natural numbers

For this situation, we have: two (2) is the index, sixteen (16) is the root, and the result of the operation is four (4) which is the root.
